About
Through TEB Children’s Theater, fundamental financial terms are taught to kids in an “edutaining” and easily understandable way so that the adaptable terms create a life-long impact on the financial behavior of children and messages in the play become more sustainable.
Innovation presentation
As TEB, we are constantly creating platforms to touch individuals that will enable them to become more self-sufficient in real life. As the power-engine of this approach, in October 2012, we launched TEB Family Academy, where regardless of being a TEB Customer we teach everyone the fundamental financial concepts and how to manage their own budgets, spend responsibly, save for their future and become financially stronger. In order to extend our approach from adults to children starting from age 5, we launched TEB Children’s Theater where we communicate children the basic financial terms in an “edutaining” way through the adventures of the starring called “Rüzgar” who has to earn money by selling lemonades at the school féte to attend the “submarine” trip. “Rüzgar’s Money Box” emphasizes key messages such as the importance of saving and calls children to learn how to spend their pocket money responsibly to fulfill their future dreams. Our source of inspiration for a financially stronger nation has been the results of Turkey’s first “Financial Literacy and Inclusion Index” that we conducted in partnership with Boğaziçi University. Index reveals the fact that most of the nation remains as unbanked and needs socially responsible efforts to be reached out. Based on these indicators, performing “Rüzgar’s Money Box” for free enables us to attract not only childrens’ attention but also their families as well. Hence, we teach everyone being financially self-sufficient through understandable and adaptable simple finance. Since its launch in May, Rüzgar’s Money Box performed to 5.500 kids including their families.
Uniqueness of the project
We raise awareness for future generations as well as adults on the importance of money habits for a financially sustainable life-style. Although there are other brands which sponsor childrens’ play, and organize activities for children; TEB Children’s Theatre stands out as the very first play on financial literacy aiming at children 5-9 years old in Turkey. Money boxes we distribute to kids at the end of each play in alignment with the name of the play “Rüzgar’s Money Box”, which are an important part of our objective to encourage them to think how they should well-manage their money to reach their goals and reconsider their habits of spending and saving. Changing children’s behaviour and money management skills and helping them understand financial concepts and impacting their habits are key contributors to nation’s economic growth in the long run.
